FBR Notice Handling & Tax Advisory Services in Pakistan

An FBR notice is not a verdict. It is a letter with a section number and a deadline. Reply correctly and on time, and most notices close quietly. Ignore it, or reply without the right documents, and it can turn into a tax demand, a penalty and, in the worst case, a bank account attachment.

  • Section, issuing office and deadline identified the same day
  • Every reply drafted by a tax consultant and backed by documents
  • Filed on IRIS before the deadline
  • Fixed quote per notice, confirmed before we start

Why It Matters

Why FBR Notices Are Increasing in 2026

Five years ago, most notices were random. Today they are not. FBR now receives data directly from banks, property registrars, vehicle excise offices and withholding agents. When your filed return doesn’t match that data, the system flags it.

FilerPK handles both sides of the problem. We reply to notices you have already received, and we plan your tax structure so fewer notices arrive in the first place. Every reply is drafted by a tax consultant, backed by documents and filed on IRIS before the deadline. Pricing is a fixed quote per notice, confirmed before we start.

The Finance Act 2026 added a new requirement for banks to report certain high-value account transactions to FBR’s central data hub. FBR is also using automated risk screening to pick cases for review. In practice, this means:

  • A big bank deposit that isn’t in your return can trigger a notice.
  • A property you bought that isn’t in your wealth statement can trigger a notice.
  • Withholding tax deducted by your clients that you never declared can trigger a notice.

None of this means you did something wrong. It usually means your return and your real financial record don’t match. That gap is exactly what we fix.

Income Tax

FBR Income Tax Notices We Handle

Every notice carries a section number. That number tells you what FBR wants and how much time you have.

Section 114(4)

Notice to File a Return

FBR sends this when it believes you should have filed but didn’t, often because your bank, car or property record shows taxable activity. We file the pending return, reconcile your wealth statement and submit the reply within the notice period.

Section 116

Wealth Statement Required

This asks you to file or correct your wealth statement. It is common when your assets have grown but your declared income doesn’t explain the increase. We reconcile your assets with your income and expenses so the numbers balance before submission.

Section 111

Unexplained Income or Assets

This is one of the most serious notices. FBR is asking you to explain where the money for an asset, deposit or expense came from. Without a documented answer, the amount can be added to your income and taxed. We build your source-of-funds evidence (gifts, loans, inheritance, sale of assets, foreign remittances) and present it formally.

Section 122

Amendment of Assessment

FBR thinks your filed return is incomplete or incorrect and proposes to amend it. We compare your return against bank, withholding and asset data, and file a written defence with evidence.

Section 176 & 177

Information Request and Audit

Section 176 asks for records or documents. Section 177 is a formal audit. Both need organised paperwork, not explanations. We compile ledgers, bank reconciliations and supporting records and submit them in the format the officer expects.

Section 214C

Audit Selection

Your return has been picked for audit, either randomly or through risk screening. Selection alone does not mean a penalty. We prepare your full documentation file before the audit starts.

Section 182

Penalty Notice

This usually comes after a late return, a missing wealth statement or non-compliance with an earlier notice. We check whether the penalty is correctly calculated and, where there is reasonable cause, apply for reduction or waiver.

Section 161 & 205

Withholding Failures and Default Surcharge

These go to employers and businesses that didn’t deduct, deposit or report withholding tax correctly. We reconcile your withholding statements, correct the record and reply to the demand.

Section 121

Best Judgment Assessment

If a notice deadline is missed, FBR can decide your tax without your input. This is called a best judgment (ex parte) assessment. It is still challengeable. We file for condonation of delay under Section 214A where available, and file an appeal where needed.

Sales Tax

Sales Tax Notices We Handle

Monthly Return

Non-Filing of Sales Tax Return

Monthly returns are due by the 18th. A missed return triggers an automatic notice and penalty. We file the pending returns and reply to the notice together.

Section 11

Short Payment or Non-Payment

FBR believes you paid less sales tax than you owed, often due to input tax claimed on invalid invoices. We review your Annexures, separate valid claims from disputed ones and file a documented reply.

Section 25

Sales Tax Audit

FBR wants to examine your sales tax records. We prepare your purchase and sales registers, invoices and reconciliations before the audit begins.

Section 33

Penalty for Violation

Penalties for late filing, wrong invoices or record-keeping failures. We check the calculation and file for reduction where the law allows.

Before an Order

Show Cause Notice

This is the step before a formal order. It explains what FBR intends to do and gives you a chance to respond. A strong written reply at this stage is often the difference between a closed case and a demand.

STRN

STRN Suspension or Blacklisting

If your STRN is suspended, your buyers cannot claim input tax on your invoices, and you start losing business fast. We identify the reason, fix the compliance gap and file for restoration.

Provincial noticesWe also handle notices from PRA (Punjab) and SRB (Sindh) for service-sector businesses.

Appeals

Appeals When a Notice Goes Against You

If an order has already been passed, it can still be challenged. The usual path is:

  1. Step 1

    Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals)

The first appeal against an assessment or penalty order.

  2. Step 2

    Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR)

    The second appeal.

  3. Step 3

    High Court

    On questions of law.

Appeals have strict time limits counted from the date of the order. Contact us the day you receive an order, not the week after.

Planning

Tax Advisory & Planning

Notices are expensive. The cheapest notice is the one that never arrives. Our advisory work focuses on keeping your records clean and your tax bill as low as the law allows.

Business Structure Review

Sole proprietor, AOP, SMC or Private Limited? Each is taxed differently. Small companies currently pay 20% corporate tax, while individuals and AOPs are taxed on progressive slabs up to 35%. We compare your options using your real numbers before you register.

Wealth Statement Planning

Most notices start with a wealth statement gap. We help you plan asset purchases, gifts and loans so they are documented correctly in the year they happen.

Withholding Tax Recovery

Tax deducted by your clients, bank and utility companies is adjustable against your annual liability. Many businesses never claim it. We track and claim every adjustable deduction.

Director Remuneration & Expense Structuring

How you pay yourself, and how you classify business expenses, both change your tax. We structure these under the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and the Finance Act 2026, with every recommendation backed by the relevant section.

Retailer Fixed Tax (Section 99B)

The Finance Act 2026 introduced a 1% fixed tax option for small retailers. We check whether it actually lowers your tax compared to normal filing.

HOW IT WORKS

How FilerPK Handles Your Notice

Five steps from the photo you send us to a closed case.

SCROLL THROUGH THE PROCESS
  1. STEP 01

    Send Us the Notice

WhatsApp a clear photo or PDF of the notice. We identify the section, the issuing office and the exact deadline the same day.

  2. STEP 02

    Risk Review and Fixed Quote

Your consultant explains what the notice really means, what documents are needed and what the likely outcome is. You get a fixed fee before any work starts.

  3. STEP 03

    Documents and Draft Reply

We collect bank statements, invoices, wealth records and any other evidence, then draft a formal written reply that answers exactly what FBR asked.

  4. STEP 04

    Your Approval and IRIS Submission

You review the reply before it goes. We file it on IRIS, save the acknowledgement and send you a copy.

  5. STEP 05

    Follow-Up Until Closed

If FBR asks follow-up questions or calls a hearing, we handle it. Where authorised, we appear before the Regional Tax Office on your behalf.
